Consciousness-The great puzzle – Part 2
In Consciousness- The big puzzle Part-1 we had discussed that consciousness is the connection between subject (The self) and objects through senses of perception. It showed the mechanism for consciousness.
Who became conscious?
Who is the one who saw and then experienced?
How did “I” became conscious?
If I looked at a tree how did I differentiated between leaves, bark, branches and the stem?
There are three non-descript, non-local entities that help self to become conscious. (We should not forget that The act of seeing is the dissection of the vibratory fields and not of light. (dealt in Part-1)
Mind (मन) : It is the screen on which the self sees
Intellect (बुद्धी) : The power of discrimination and discerning
Ego (अहंकार) : The I-sense, the knower of matter and also Spirit (Brahmn)
Lower Mind (चित्त) : Recorder of all experiences. It is the storage device, like google, of our body.

Signals are received by the mind from senses of perception. They are processed by the brain and dissected by the Intellect and seen/experienced by the “I”.
Based on experience the five organs of action react.
Both actions and reactions are stored by the mind. Whatever, are the actions they are in closed loop with the mind. The reactions are stored in the lower Mind (चित्त) and they become the reference points for further actions.
Science has no way of telling, so far, how and why emotions are generated.
As we move ahead we shall understand Mind, Intellect and the “I”.
The humongous universe, made up of fundamental particles, which are the outcropping of the state of nothingness. String theorist, Dr. Michio Kaku, is now looking for an inch long equation knowing which nothing is left to be known.
His quest of an equation has a fallacy. It is looking for that matter/thing which is the cause of string particles. However, self, consciousness or god is beyond space-time.
Vedas have an inch long equation.
“Ahem Brahmasmi” (अहं ब्रह्मास्मी)
It means, I am Brahmn, the content of both manifest and unmanifest creation?
How do we know that “I am Brahmn”? By becoming aware or conscious.
We relate all our experiences, actions and reactions to “I”.
I saw. I tasted. I heard. I touched. I smelled.
I ran. I ate. I am hungry.
All our desires and ambitions are attribute to “I”
Any actions or reactions, all propensities and proclivities are of “I”
“I”-sense is always there. Without the I-sense, there is no awareness or consciousness.
I-sense is a state of consciousness.
I am this body. Even if we do not have a leg, or hand or deaf and dumb, our I-sense is intact. This I-ness is wholeness. It is beyond the impaired or incomplete nervous system. Despite the fact that most organ failure has taken place, the dying man’s I-sense remains intact.
Many a times this dying man says “Guys, I am leaving you”.
Who is this person leaving?
Needless to say that person is not the body. It is the wholeness, something which is beyond the body and we believe that it is the Soul.
To be continued.. (We shall discuss three States of consciousness, its physical and spiritual aspects)
